The Amazing Closet Adventure
By Mrs. Watson's 4th Grade Class
It was on a Friday. Most kids are long gone from the classroom on a Friday but I was heading to it. I had forgotten my favorite book in my desk. I hoped I wouldn't run into my teacher, Mrs. Dodd, while I was there. She was so strict, she might yell at me for being in the classroom after school. "Please don't be locked", I said to myself. Luckily, the door wasn't locked. I saw my book hanging out of my desk. After, I grabbed it, I turned toward the teacher's desk. Just then, I noticed the closet door behind the teacher's desk was open! It was never open! Plus, there was something sparkly came out of it. My curiosity got the best of me, so I went over to investigate. As I got closer, I heard laughter and loud music. I knew I shouldn't but I just had to find out where those voices were coming from! I stepped into the closet and then shut the door so no one coming in the classroom would see me!
Even though the door was closed, it wasn't dark in the hallway. The sparkly mist seemed to be giving off a strange glow, so I could see where I was going. As I crept down the hallway, I could hear the voices getting louder and louder. Finally, I saw a window up ahead. I peeked into the window and was amazed at what I saw! Many of the school's teachers, including Mrs. Dodd, were in a room that looked like the teacher's lounge. But those teachers weren't acting like the teachers I knew! In fact, the more I watched, the more it seemed they were acting the opposite of the way they normally were! Strict, stern, Mrs. Dodd, was smiling, dancing and laughing. Mrs. Reed, the teacher next door, was usually friendly and smiled all the time. When I saw her here, she was frowning and had her arms crossed in a mean way. "What is going on here?", I thought. Then I noticed the sparkly mist had filled the teacher's lounge. "Could that have something to do with the teacher's strange behavior?" I thought to myself.
Just then, I heard a rumbling noise and saw further down the hall a strange machine that had the mist coming out of it. "That has to be it", I whispered to myself. I decided I had to find a way to turn it off and return my teachers to their normal selves. So, I moved next to the machine but couldn't find any buttons or switches to turn it off anywhere!
I glanced into the teacher's room and saw a closed window. That gave me an idea! Maybe if I snuck in and opened the window, the mist would go out! Even though I was afraid of getting caught, I quietly snuck into the room. Everyone was so busy laughing and dancing or staring off into space (that was Mrs. Reed), that they didn't notice me as I crawled along the floor. When I reached the window, I flung it opened and the mist immediately began to flow out. Right away the teacher's began to change back to themselves. Mrs. Dodd stopped dancing and just stood there looking stern and confused. She got her usual scowl on her face when she saw the open window. "Who opened this window?" she said sternly. Mrs. Dodd slammed the window shut and all the teachers turned crazy again. Mr. Abernathy even had a serious, mean look on his face, which wasn't like him at all! Oh, no! Mrs. Dodd had ruined everything!
So, I decided to return to the machine even though I felt like giving up. I tried to find an off button again, but no luck. So in despair, I leaned up against the machine and an amazing thing happened. The machine turned off magically and all the sparkly mist disappeared. I jumped and ran to the window of the teacher's lounge. All the teachers seemed back to normal because they stopped dancing and singing.
So, I knew I had to get out of there before anyone saw me. I snuck back down the hall and into the classroom. I took a deep breath in relief. I had made it! I thought to myself, "Never again will I go into that closet!" I went home and read my book, which seemed so boring compared to my adventure!!
